Home > Advancement
Advancement is the process by which youth members of the Boy Scouts of America progress from rank to rank in the Scouting program. Advancement is simply a means to an end, not an end in itself. Everything done to advance and earn these ranks, from joining until leaving the program, should be designed to help the young person have an exciting and meaningful experience.
Education and fun are functions of the Scouting movement, and they must be the basis of the advancement program.
A fundamental principle of advancement in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing is the growth a young person achieves as a result of his/her participation in unit program.
The National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Committee in the Hawkeye Area Council was formed in 2013. The first recognitions awarded by the HAC NESA Committee were recipients of the District Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year in each of the three geographic districts of the council. Six finalists were determined for each district, with one being selected as the winner. The three district winners were then considered for the Council nomination for the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award.
To join our local NESA Committee, you can fill out the bottom part of the form available in the link below. Turn it in to the Scout Office, or your friendly District Executive. Joining our local NESA Committee will allow you to get involved in recognizing well-deserving individuals in the Hawkeye Area Council, both youth and adults.
