Camping Programs...a la carte!

Pick and choose the programs YOU want! These new programs have been requested by leaders and individual Scouts to help make the most of their summer at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation. They will fill up fast – so sign up now to secure your spot!

Note to all: 

While parents or leaders are welcome to attend any of the events/outings, it is not required. Camp staff will be provided to meet two-deep leadership for all OSPREY events/outings.

Note for overnights:

Anyone planning to stay overnight must supply their own tent. You can request a tent, but it will be a canvas tent. To request a tent, contact Ranger Josh:

Note for all programs:

The only program with a age restriction is Pistols at 14. No other program has an age requirement!


Provided by experts from DiVentures Shop in North Liberty, IA. One day spent at camp learning in the pool, then put new skills to work at an off-site dive the next day. Limited to 20 participants. Meals, tent lodging, and transportation provided. (2 day session)  THE SWIMMING MERIT BADGE MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO TAKING THIS CLASS.   

Check in is at 9:00 am and training will begin at 9:30 am. The overnight will be at camp, and you will leave early the next morning. The actual scuba expedition will be done at Turkey Ridge in Janesville, Iowa, and you can expect to be back around 4:00 pm that day.

Float Trip

Canoe down the Wapsipinicon River and spend the night along the way. Complete your trip the following day when you will arrive back at camp. Limited to 24 participants. Meals, tent lodging, and supplies provided. (2 day session) Meet with Ranger Josh and be prepared to depart at 9:00 am. You will be back at camp the next day around 3:00 pm.

Big Zip / Climbing Experience

Spend a day at camp on the climbing wall, and then experience the all new Big Zip. Try out your climbing skills on real-rock surfaces at Picture Rock the next day before heading home. Meals, tent lodging, and transportation provided. (2 day session) The overnight will be at camp. Be ready to depart at 9:00 am, and you will be back that day around 3:00 pm.

Total Aquatics

Cool off on all of your favorite aquatics toys! Spend the day enjoying kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and log rolling, along with hanging out in the pool! No limits...just fun in the water. Meals and supplies provided. This will be a nearly all day session, running from 9 am until 4 pm.

Big Zip / COPE Experience


COPE stands for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience, and if you have not participated in this yet, now’s your chance! Spend the whole day with your Troop in team building events, including a half day 40’ in the air. You will finish up with the ultimate experience of flying through the air on the Big Zip in the evening! This is a great team-building event to experience as an entire troop!  Meals and supplies provided.  This is a 1 day session with the optional overnight stay available the night of the session.  The day will begin at 9 am and will end at 4 pm.

Merit Badge Clean-up Days

Did you miss a few requirements at camp, or have you started a merit badge on your own and not finished it yet? This is your chance to work with a certified merit badge counselor to get those final items checked off and complete that merit badge! All merit badges offered at 2018 HAC Boy Scout Camp will be available. Meals and supplies provided. These are 1 day sessions.  To register, click a date below.

Each day has two sessions. Be sure to bring your Blue Cards for the MB's you sign up for. Also, you may finish early, so bring Blue Cards for other MB's you would like to work on (in addition to the sessions you already signed up for). Morning sessions meet check in at Dakin Dining Hall at 8:30 am. For the afternoon sessions, you will check in at the Troop Service Building at 12:30 pm.

MB Cleanup Schedule

Merit Badges offered:

*Aquatic: Swimming, lifesaving, canoeing, kayaking

*Shooting Sports: Archery, rifle, shotgun

*Handicraft: Indian Lore, woodcarving, basketry, space exploration, welding, metal work, game design, photography, art

*Personal Development: Chess, first aid, emergency prep, disabilities awareness, search and rescue, personal fitness

*Scoutcraft: pioneering, cooking, orienteering, geocaching,  wilderness survival, camping, engineering

*Ecology: Astronomy, environmental science, fish and wildlife management, sustainability, mammal study, fishing, reptile and amphibian study, soil and water conservation, fly fishing, weather, oceanography

*Climbing: climbing

Utilize this time at camp to help you make progress toward your goals.  This is a great way to kick-start your trail to Eagle this summer! (Pre-requisites may be necessary to complete the entire badge during class).  Meals and supplies provided.  These are 1 day sessions.  

Note: Overnight options are available for this program. There is an additional $15.00 charge for staying overnight. 



Price: 35.00/Youth per day/class

No fee for adult (no meals provided)

Family Camp


Share your camp experience with family and friends. Bring friends and family not in Scouting out to camp and show them around, and let them experience all the fun that you have at camp! Staffed activities include swimming, bouldering/climbing wall, shooting sports, games, fishing, crafts, and a campfire program. Activity stations provide optional structured programs while leaving enough free time to enjoy the great outdoors with family. (Some age restrictions may apply to specific activities.)

Price: $100.00 for 1 Scout/1 Adult Partner $25.00 for each additional person (over age 4)
attending in the same family group. Ex. 2 Scouts along with mom and dad will be attending
family camp total cost will be $150.


Marksmanship Day


Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation will be hosting a special safari adventure dedicated to youth shooting sports. This is a full day of activities for youth going into 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Activities including but not limited to: air rifle shooting, BB guns, archery, wrist rockets, catapults, build your own targets, swimming, a closing awards ceremony.
