"A Scout Is Reverent. He is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others."
So reads the twelfth point of the Scout Law. These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith.
Sunday, February 5, 2012 is designated as Scout Sunday and the following Saturday is designated as Scout Sabbath. The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in church aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what is pledged each week. This is an appropriate time for Packs, Troops and Crews to attend services in full uniform, and show your Scout's "Duty to God." Work with your religious leaders to find a harmonious way to celebrate Scoutings commitment to reverence. An organization can adopt a specific Sunday to celebrate and it is permissible for a local church to celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and the congregation.
The Hawkeye Area Council's Activity Committee will supply the new 2012 Scout Sunday patch to all Scouts that take part in a Scout Sunday service. Unit leaders must report their event and list of Scouts that take part to tracy@troop42.com by 2-22-2012. Patches will be supplied at NO charge to youth, adults will be charged $2.00 each.
