The national council is considering changes to the national membership standards.  On March 13 & 14 chartered organizations, leaders, and parents were invited to informational meetings.  The purpose of these meetings was to inform people of the membership standards discussion, provide them with the current status, and solicit feedback.  During this process it is important to focus on that which unites us: providing children with the nation's preimer youth program: Scouting.

If you would like to provide input, please fill out this local questionnaire and feel free to include any additional comments.

It is with mixed feelings that I announce that last week our Scout Executive Travis Christopher interviewed and accepted a significant promotion to become the Scout Executive/CEO of the Northern Lights Council based in Fargo, ND.  The council serves all of North Dakota, western Minnesota, and Eastern Montana.  Besides a new opportunity for him, the chance to live near his family was viewed a true benefit – his extended family lives in the new council area.  He will start in Fargo on Friday, November 16.

In short order, I will be working with our area director Mike McCarthy to begin the process to select a new Scout Executive.  More information to come.  As you all know during his tenure here, Travis has done much to get Scouting’s name into our communities, raise capital and endowment funding, enrich our relationship with the United Way, increase our program outcomes and enhance our volunteer services such as our Scout Shop and council office.

The Hawkeye Area Council is in a good position with great volunteers and a wonderful board, so I can assure you we won’t miss a beat during the transition.

Thank you

Mike Stallman
