Fall Conclave
The Fall Conclave (Sept 5-7, 2008) is rapidly approaching. Fall Conclave is the first opportunity for the new Ordeal Candidates from Summer callouts have to serve their ordeal and become Ordeal Members of our lodge. It is also an opportunity for our Ordeal Members to become full members of our lodge by completing their Brotherhood. It is also an opportunity for fun, fellowship, and some great food.
It is the opportunity for all members of our lodge to cheerfully provide lots of service hours to our camp. It is also an opportunity for both youth and adults to receive Duty Promotions and the Saturday campfire will reveal the Brotherhood members who have been called to Vigil, as well as the members that have been called to the Red Duty.
The completed application must be submitted to the Scout Shop by COB Tuesday, September 2, 2008, to avoid the $5.00 late fee.
Section Conclave
Sac-N-Fox Lodge #108 is proud to host the Section C1C Conclave this fall. The Section Conclave will occur on September 12-14, 2008, at the Winnebago Scout Reservation near Marble Rock, Iowa. The completed application must be submitted to the Scout Shop by COB Thursday, August 28, 2008 to avoid the $5.00 late fee.
What is a Section Conclave? Every year, the section hosts a gathering of lodges at a scout camp. This gathering of lodges is known as the section conclave. At conclave, Arrowmen from all over the section come together to learn, compete and have fun. Participants have the chance to take training classes that will sharpen their skills in variety of areas ranging from making regalia for use in dance or ceremonies to leadership classes.
There are also tons of games and "fun-only" activities in which to participate. There's never a dull moment! Of course, we can't forget about the fellowship. Conclave is a great chance for you to meet Arrowmen from all over the section or just to catch up with some old friends. Did we forget to mention the patch trading?

Emergency Preparedness. First Aid. Selflessness.
All three are taught to us through the Scouting way and the Order of the Arrow, but very rarely do we get the chance to put our training into practice. However, for small Troop 226 of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania such an opportunity fell right into their hands as they were recently hiking up Blue Mountain.
Fellow mountain hiker Jane Scholl was on the mountain one afternoon taking photographs of the landscape when she mistakenly tripped and fell down a short part of the mountainside, landing on her eye and cutting herself badly. Six Scouts and Scouters from that troop found the dazed and injured woman strewn on the ground and immediately referred back to their scouting skills in order to handle the situation.
Before the troop got involved, the woman was attempting to hike nearly six more miles to the base of the mountain on her own. While one scout telephoned the police requesting helicopter assistance, two others helped bandage up some of her wounds.
The troop then constructed a makeshift stretcher out of tree branches and sweatshirts and carried Mrs. Scholl to an open plateau three miles away to meet with the rescue helicopter.
For their oustanding service and quick response the six troop members were each presented the National Medal of Merit, which was pinned on them at an award ceremony by the very woman they saved.
