Did you know an estimated 1-in-8 Americans do not have enough food to eat each day?

Help us ease the pain of hunger in our local community by supporting our Scouting for Food Drive.

Scouting for Food is a program with a rich history and tradition.  In partnership with local food banks, this Food Drive is the largest community outreach project in the Hawkeye Area Council. Every year, Scouts hit the streets collecting donations in their neighborhoods for those less fortunate.  Citizens wishing to donate place bags full of non-perishable food on their doorsteps.  Local Scout Troops and Packs pick up the donations and deliver them to HACAP’s Food Reservoir and other local food agencies in the seven counties of Easter Iowa we proudly serve.

Help us fight hunger in our community!
It's easy for Scouts to participate. Follow these 3-steps to get started!

Step 1: Distribute Door Hangers

Step 2: Collect Food

Step 3: Drop Off Food & Report Results

Door-to-Door Option: distribute flyers/Door Hangers close to your home. Wear your uniform and with a parent, leave a flyer on the front door of your nearest neighbors.

Digital Option: You can also post a flyer to your neighborhood’s HOA or social media groups (like Nextdoor) asking for donations.

Scouts and their parents will return to each house where they left a flyer and collect any and all food donations. to collect donations.   This will take place on October 19, 2024.

After collecting all donations in your neighborhood, drop off items at your local food bank or pantries. Be sure to record your service hours for a job well done!

Scouting for Food Monetary Donation

Didn’t get information delivered to your home? No extra food or not enough time to buy donations? Please give a monetary donation! Every $1 donated = 5 meals purchased!! HACAP’s buying power stretches your money to buy the most food possible. HACAP will then distribute the food to their 238 food pantries in their 7 county area (which almost matches the Hawkeye Area boundaries exactly). All food donations will be kept local!

Door hangers will be distributed at the October 5th Roundtable. We are not distributing plastic bags this year.

The hours of both food collection sites are between: 9:00am-12:00pm.

After all food is collected on October 8th, please click the link to answer a short survey on how many Scouts and service hours helped. This will be submitted to National after all hours are collected

Once the food has been delivered to the food collections sites, the food is then taken and stored at HACAP’s Food Reservoir and other pantries in the local area.

If you happen to miss out on delivering the food your unit collected to either of the 3 food collection site locations, you may directly deliver them to a food pantry near you. Click Here to view the list of food pantries in the State of Iowa.
