Popcorn Sale
Scouts in the Hawkeye Area Council are known for their gourmet popcorn sale. Each fall during October and November, thousands of Scouts traverse the communities selling popcorn to earn their way in Scouting.
- In 2009, 14 varieties of delicious Pecatonica River popcorn were available.
- Time, Inc. magazine vouchers have also been added to the product list for a non food item option.
- Businesses can also support Scouts with holiday gifts purchases for your customers and clients. Chocolates Lover 5 & Gift Sets are great options.
Scouts are given the opportunity to learn entrepreneurial skills through popcorn sales.
- Goal setting, customer service, organizational skills, public speaking and the concept of earning their own way are learned throughout the sale.
- Confidence grows as the Scouts achieve success.
"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."
~ Zig Ziglar
A well-rounded Unit program requires money… Scouts need gear and funding for activities.
- This joint fundraiser produces income for Scouts, their units and the Council. Last year, over $332,000 went into unit treasuries within the Hawkeye Area Council. The Council profits are returned to Scouts and their families through excellent Scouting programs and the Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation camping facilities.
Popcorn for Patriots - Scouts Support our Troops Overseas!
- In 2008, Popcorn for Patriots was created as a way to support Iowa's brave fighting men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq. Notes of support from customers and Scouting Units alike are sent along with bags of cheese popcorn. We hope to let the Troops know that community members from back home are thinking of them.
- Over 990 containers were sent to Iowa troops in 2008.
